Jagjit wanted to get away from the world of music but he did not do it. While his wife left the singing unhappy with the son's death, Jagjit Singh was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 2003 by the Government of India.
In 2011, Jagjit Singh was to perform with Ghulam Ali in the UK but due to cerebral hemorrhage he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on September 23, 2011. His condition deteriorated and he went to coma. Jagjit Singh died on October 10, 2011
